I wonder about the hunger anybody will feel after not having eaten for a full two hours... Alfonso Update http://jacksonsfellowworkers.blogspot.com/2012/05/alfonso-update.html http://jacksonsfellowworkers.blogspot.com/2012/05/alfonso-update.html Sat, 12 May 2012 12:11:00 CDT Jackson Family Blog Thank you all for praying for Alfonso. He is doing a lot better. But that isn't saying a lot. He still doesn't get around really well. His feet and knees swell up when he walks at all. He still has this persistent head ache in the back of his head and is broke all the time. But his spirits are up. We enjoyed a can of sardines together on Sunday and had a great time of fellowship. Several times now I have thought, "well, this is it. Here goes another saint off to glory." But, the Lord has other ideas, and we thank Him for it. He get a lot of his encouragement knowing that many of you are praying for him. Me too for that matter.Thank you for your prayers! Borders, grazing rites, ownership issues continue to be fought over. It certainly is a prayer concern. We believe that there is a need for suitable land for SIM Sudan, too, in order to serve the Lord through our various ministries here in Upper Nile State. I like to feel a real book in my hand. He was honored with the award for Excellence in Scholarship!  His peers nominated him based on his publications this year and his scholarship all around.  So cool. There are just four of them and their exams are scheduled to begin on Monday, 7 May 2012. They, their parents and all of us at the school have big hopes for them.We hope they do well in their exams, we hope they get into good schools to continue their education, we hope they stay healthy throughout the month of exams and perhaps uniquely for Bangladesh, we hope the opposition will not find more to call general strikes over for the time being.During the last two weeks we have had first three and then two days of shut-downs (hartals) in Bangladesh. They have been linked to the disappearance of a member of the main opposition party. Our students have to travel 30 km (17 miles) to get to the exam venue in Dinajpur and will be in trouble if we can’t get them there or if the exams are cancelled. The exams are international exams, and while it might be possible to re-schedule to the next day, the British Council and Cambridge International Examinations have informed us, that if this is not possible, we will have to re-register for the next available exams in November this year or in May/June next.We have other hopes too, for bright futures, lives that honour God, for joy, happiness and all good things. Please pray with us for Adib, Omika, Oli and Priyana. The latest attack caused only damage and no injuries. We recently had a run of four days in which we had a sunny morning followed by thunderstorms and significant hail for a few hours. I guess the heat of the plains drives up the mountains and brews up some nasty weather. It was very nice to celebrate Easter here with the national church. I was very privileged and honoured to be ask to bring the sermon for Easter morning at one of the local churches here. It was my first time preaching with a translator, but the translator was my friend, and Laura and my language teacher, and he really does an excellent job. We also got to share in a breakfast after the service, and have some fellowship with the local Pakistanis. It is such a wonderful feeling to be able to be here in Pakistan and to share with people, who in many ways lead such a different life than I have, and yet we can share a common joy and hope in the message of a saviour who is not dead, but living! And in a mysterious, special way to all be a part of that resurrection life together. Also, on a much less significant note; Fashion is quite an important value to Pakistanis. Fabric is one of Pakistan's main exports, and cloth and tailor stores are everywhere. I've also heard it said that a Pakistanis will go without food before they go without nice clothes. Especially for special occasions like weddings, etc. So, I had a chance to have a suit tailor made and it arrived the day before Easter. So I was glad to be able to have a nice outfit for such a special occasion.Life is sure going fast here in Pakistan. We are happy, and glad that God has brought us here. I hope you are experiencing God's blessings wherever you are. Here we lay our sin and death upon the shoulders of the Savior. Here our Savior bears them to the grave. Here he is cursed for our redemption. Here he takes our brokenness and rebellion, our sin and death to hell – and opens … Continue reading → A Need to Warm Up http://wmpl.org/blogs/markathi/2012/04/09/716/ http://wmpl.org/blogs/markathi/2012/04/09/716/ Mon, 09 Apr 2012 21:48:55 CDT Mark and Kathi We took a break from the PNW last week.  All the way to Florida!  We visited our good friends and mentors, Phil & Julie Parshall, in the new home in Sebring , FL.
