This evening we heard from our Africa Program Coordinator, Mike Koski. Mike has recently returned from a visit to Kenya — and our partners in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya (ELCK).
In broad overview, Mike presented a panorama of growth around the continent. In 1900, just over one hundred years ago, African Christians numbered approximately 8 million — less than ten percent of the African continent, and less than two percent of the Christian family worldwide. Today the African church numbers more than 380 million — more than half of continent, and fully eighteen percent of all Christians around the world. By 2025 it is estimated that African Christians will be nearly one out of four of our Christian family.
Yet many people groups remained unreached, especially in the Saharan north. Mike presented one such group from the Horn of Africa. An international consultation held recently in Minneapolis prayed and strategized for serving this group with the Good News of God’s grace.

Looking at these images reminds me of my time in Kenya with Charles and Anita in January. I miss the people a lot and often think of them.
Seeing your images and photos of Kenya, brings me back 40-45 years as an MK in both Tanzania and Kenya. My Tanzania boarding school was Augustana School at Kiomboi and my Kenya boarding school was Rift Valley Academy at Kijabe, near Nairobi.
A few years ago I read the book,”Messengers of Love…” by Pastor Bob Ward who served the Hadza Bushmen in Tanzania and at the Arsim Mission in Kenya.
My Prayers for your East Africa Missions are ongoing, as my own parents served in Tanzania and Ethiopia for 20 years….”To God be the Glory…”
