In February we heard from Juan Fernández and Chuck Lindquist, who have recently visited our partners in Bolivia and Peru.
In Bolivia, Juan and Chuck represented the Prayer League at the seventieth anniversary celebration of the Iglesia Evangélica Luterana Boliviana (IELB) in El Alto, near La Paz. The church dates its inception to 1938 — and the arrival of Prayer League missionaries John Carlson and Ernest Weinhardt. Today the church numbers some 20,000 sisters and brothers in more than 120 congregations, throughout the Aymara-speaking highlands of Bolivia and beyond.
A highlight of the celebration was the ordination of twenty-three newly minted pastors, preparing and called to service through the church and round the country.
In December, Juan and Chuck represented the Prayer League at another ordination celebration — this time in Chiclayo, along the northern coast of Peru. There we partner with the Iglesia Evangélica Luterana de Chiclayo (IELCh) and the Swedish Lutheran Mission. The church ordained its first two pastors into ministries of Word and Sacrament in the Chiclayano suburbs of Las Brisas and Las Lomas.
