In a little-known but strategic corner of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province, Christian Hospital Tank has provided vital and loving medical care in Jesus’ name for over 130 years. The 77 bed hospital contains separate female and male wards for both medical and surgical patients.

Especially needed are any doctors with a breadth of experience and training, who are willing to be flexible and evaluate and treat any patients who come. This would most likely be those trained in family practice, general surgery, ob-gyn, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Along with the desperate need for physicians is the need for a Project Director. If you could fill one of these needs won’t you please ask God if He is calling you to Pakistan! For more info contact carmeng@wmpl.org.

Chesinende was a natural extension of the Swedish Lutheran Mission's work as they attempted to serve the spiritual needs of tea-picking Kisii people living in Kipsigis areas. It was a center especially for short seminars and was served capably by Danish missionaries under the aegis of the Swedish Lutheran Mission and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya. In the early 1990s the last full-time missionaries left Chesinende and for some years it was used as a training center for Maasai Christian leaders. Some of Samburu Christians used also to attend some of these seminars. It has also been used for a variety of other meetings within the ELCK.

The local Christian leaders have never lost the vision to use the center as a training center for Christian leaders. But they have felt that they have not had the personnel resources in order to set things in motion again there. In the 1990s and then again more recently, Chesinende has been named in national ELCK planning as a possible center for evangelistic/preacher training. It is desirable that in the future this center could be fully staffed by national personnel. But its present stalemate indicates that this is not likely to happen without some outside help and ideas. The right person at Chesinende would want to have a strategy for developing a national teaching staff at the center which could take over the work after 5-10 years.

Purposes:

1. To catalyze the development of an organization-wide scalable strategy for transformational communication and mobilization, rooted in the principles and values of our praying community.

2. To develop a plan for the application and monitoring of this strategy throughout our community, including staff orientation and training.

3. To coordinate and supervise our Regional Representatives, as well as other communication staff and activities, as determined by the General Director.

4. To serve our Crisis Management Team as needed in crisis communication scenarios.

Specific Outcomes:

1. The Director of Communication and Mobilization (DCM) will champion our communication and mobilization strategy throughout our community.

2. Our staff and missionaries will be effectively mobilized to tell the “Prayer League story,” in an ever-growing circle of partnerships in ministry.

3. The Prayer League “brand” will be applied consistently across our communication media and events — not only in “branded” colors and styles, but also in “branded” values and priorities that will characterize every communication event.

4. The DCM will facilitate the itineration of Prayer League staff and missionaries, especially when on home assignment, in partnership with our Personnel and Regional Coordinators’ offices.

5. The DCM will identify events — conferences, workshops, retreats, etc. — that may represent opportunities for “telling the story,” and will facilitate a display and/or presenters for such events in partnership with Regional Coordinators.

6. We will exploit the ever-changing potential of new media — social networking, “viral” video, texting, etc. — for mission mobilization.

7. We will steward wisely our messages, media and communication resources, as tools for the extension of God’s Kingdom in the world.

Accountability:

1. The Director of Communication and Mobilization will report to the General Director.

2. Progress toward these outcomes will be evaluated on a quarterly basis.

3. The DCM will be considered a regular and full-time missionary, assigned to mission-wide service as part of our Home Staff in Minneapolis, receiving full allowance/benefits as such.

The World Mission Prayer League does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Because we are a religious organization, WMPL retains the right to give preference in hiring to persons who are Christians of a Lutheran identity. Also, because of our organization’s unique identity, WMPL staff and missionaries are expected to pursue lifestyles that are in harmony with the organization’s Statement of Faith and Mission Handbook.
