From 1983-2000, Tom served in missions with churches in Cameroon and the Central African Republic where he met and married his Central African wife, Eunice. Since 2002 they have served a three-point rural Lutheran parish in Hawley, Minnesota, where they raised their family.
Tom and Eunice serve in the Democratic Republic of Congo alongside WMPL global workers Didi & Serafina Panzo, with whom they work to build and strengthen the capacity of local churches to become self-sustaining and self-multiplying communities of Christ. Eunice uses her gifts in home economics to help women and families restore and keep their dignity. She and Tom promote sustainable agriculture. Tom uses his theological training, preaching, and teaching skills to train pastors and lay leaders at the burgeoning Lutheran Seminary in Tshela. Tom also has a calling to work with alcoholics. He points them to the 12-Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and the healing promises of Jesus Christ.
While in the States Tom and Eunice work closely with the Prayer Mobilization Team. They share the vision of the Prayer League with congregations and individuals in hopes of creating awareness in Christians in America as to the need for more harvest workers. They both just finished the Perspectives course and are hoping to recruit more people to take this course to enlarge their vision of God’s heart for the nations.
“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.“
2 Corinthians 4: 5-6 ESV
