Ways to Pray

While writing down his vision for a large number of global workers who would bring the gospel to the great unreached areas of the world, WMPL pioneer Ernest Weinhardt penned, “That these men and women occupy these territories with the primary purpose of praying for the outpouring of his Holy Spirit upon their peoples unto the conviction of sin and conversion.” – Ernest Weinhardt, as quoted in The Spirit of God was Moving, c2019, p.33

The World Mission Prayer League grew out of a God-given burden to pray for the unreached interiors of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. How could these peoples come to faith, unless they hear the gospel? How could they hear, unless the gospel is preached? And how could the message be preached, unless someone is sent to preach it?

We advocate prayer for the advance of God’s Kingdom, particularly among the least reached, and that God would send workers to the harvest. Will you join us in praying God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven?

Pray for Unreached People Groups

I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone …. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1,3,4 NRSV

Pray this week for the estimated 4,100 ethnolinguistic people groups who are still unreached among the world’s 9,800 groups. Pray also for the workers who focus their efforts among them.

Day 1: Preparation of the Soil

Pray for God to prepare the minds and hearts of many people from each ethnolinguistic group to understand and receive the Good News when they hear it (Acts 1:8; Ephesians 1:17-19).

Day 2: Orchestration of Open Doors

Pray for God to use favorable circumstances for the sharing of the gospel in word and life with individuals, couples and families from each people group (Colossians 4:2-6).

Day 3: Calling of Harvest Workers

Pray the Lord would send out and provide for workers for his harvest among the frontiers of unreached people groups around the globe (Matthew 9:37,38).

Day 4: Providential Encounters

Pray that members of each unreached people group would encounter followers of Jesus, see God in them and, through these encounters and the Word, be introduced to the One who listens to their prayers (1 Kings 8:41-43, 60).

Day 5: Reception of the Good News

Pray that members from each unreached people group would hear the Word in their heart language and be moved to faith with genuine understanding (Acts 2:7-11).

Day 6: Discipleship & Reproduction

Pray that those who do receive the gospel of Jesus Christ will become obedient, growing, faithful disciples of their Lord. Pray for reproducing expressions of the Body of Christ among each people group (Matthew 28:19; 1 Thessalonians 1:6-8; 1 Peter 2:9-12).

Day 7: Completion of God’s Promise

Pray that the Lord would soon complete his promise of a harvest among every people group for his glory (Matthew 24:14; Revelation 7:9,10).

Pray For Kingdom Advance

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

Psalm 2:8 NRSV

This week choose an area of the world as a focus for your prayers. Pray for the people groups who live in this area. Pray that God may reach them with the gospel, equip them for mission, and send them as his own ambassadors into the world.

Day 1: The Rule of the King

Pray that Jesus Christ would rule around the world – and in your particular area of focus. Pray that he would transform lives and communities according to his gracious design for all peoples (Romans 15:8-12).

Day 2: Unreached Peoples

Pray for the people groups in your area of focus – and for the unreached in particular. Pray for open doors among them. Pray for gospel servants to reach them with the Good News of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:1).

Day 3: Gospel Servants

Pray for the gospel servants that you know – especially within our own Prayer League community. Pray that they may grow in their own relationship with Jesus Christ and represent him effectively among the people they serve (Ephesians 6:18,19).

Day 4: The Church

Pray for the church around the world – and in your particular area of focus especially. Pray that your sisters and brothers may grow deep in their faith and broad in their vision (Ephesians 3:14-19).

Day 5: The Mission

Pray that God would equip the worldwide church for its worldwide mission. Pray that God would send out laborers – from every corner of the church to every corner of the world that waits to hear the Good News (Matthew 9:37,38).

Day 6: The World

Pray for presidents, parliaments, judges and governors, etc. – in your area of focus in particular. Pray that they may govern well and serve justly. Pray for sensitivity to the rule of Jesus Christ and openness to the wonderful news of the gospel (1 Timothy 2:1,2).

Day 7: The Glory

Thank God for his answer to prayer. Praise him for the Good News of Jesus for all peoples. Thank him for reserving a place around the throne for every people, tribe, tongue and nation (Revelation 7:9).

Who Is Your Global Worker?

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31 NIV

This week choose a global worker or worker family as a focus for your prayers. Pray for their personal life, ministry, and relationships with others.

Day 1: Relationship With God

Pray that your global worker would feed on God’s Word, have a healthy prayer life, be filled with the Holy Spirit, mature and grow in grace, and have victory over Satan and the flesh.

Day 2: Physical & Emotional LIfe

Pray that your global worker would adapt to the climate, be healthy in the midst of disease, find safety in danger, and have victory over loneliness, depression, and discouragement.

Day 3: Family

Pray for your worker’s relationships with those closest to him or her whether married, with children, or single.

Day 4: Ability to Communicate

Pray that your global worker would continue to improve in study and practice of the language(s), and in cultural adaptation and understanding.

Pray for boldness, prepared hearts, and fruitfulness!
