And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.”
Mark 16:6 ESV
I enjoy the season of Lent in the Church calendar. The season reminds me of how far short I still am of the mark of Christ-like sanctification. It is good to remember that I came from dust and our bodies will one day return there. If I believe this to be true, what should my life be about?
This season reminds me of the 40 years the Israelites spent wandering in the desert, waiting to get into the promised land due to their disobedience and lack of faith. (Numbers 14:5-25) Later, Moses himself was not allowed to enter because of his disobedience. (Numbers 20:10-13) This season also reminds me of the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, where he spent 40 days being tempted by Satan before the start of his earthly ministry. (Mark 1:12-13)
During Lent, I often reflect on my life and my choices over the last year and seek the Lord to mold me into the man I know he wishes me to be. It is a season of prayer, self-sacrifice, and contemplation as I eagerly await to celebrate the victory over the grave and the triumph of our Lord Jesus on Easter morning. This is good news and needs to be shared!
I often think about the faithful members of the World Mission Prayer League who have committed their lives to praying for the least reached, sacrificially giving to support our workers, projects, and partners worldwide. I also think of those who have made choices to advance the Kingdom of God with their worldly possessions after they have left this world to be with the Father – not because of their good works but because of what Jesus accomplished on the cross for all people.
This month, I have had the humble privilege of processing gifts from the estates of three former World Mission Prayer League members. I am honored to be a member of this community with those who have a passion and heart for the gospel to keep reaching the ends of the earth even when they are no longer a part of this world.
We all have the privilege to receive his great commission for our lives! Because of your prayers and sacrificial giving, I am happy to report that all of our workers received full support in February. Please continue to pray for the next generation of WMPL pray-ers, givers, and goers.
