Health insurance is both a necessity and a benefit. Knowing that our health and the health of our families is taken care of through insurance provides us peace of mind. But understanding how health insurance works can be very complicated. It can also become a very politicized and polarizing issue. But what it is certain is that healthcare costs in the United States have been rising for decades and are expected to keep increasing.
Selecting a plan that better fits our changing needs can also be challenging. Whether choosing a shared plan or a more traditional plan, there are many options as well as differences in cost and coverage. As inflation looms, prices for everything to go up. Nearly 18% of US expenses have gone to healthcare while healthcare costs have steadily increased by about 7% every year for the past five years.
Our health insurance provider recently informed us that they are changing our policy coverage by dividing it into two separate plans, one for our US-based workers, and another one for our international workers. Unfortunately, the cost for our US-based plan will significantly increase. This situation has led us to consider other more suitable and sustainable options while meeting the needs of our organization and our workers.
Our hope is to find a viable path in the next few months or by the end of the year at the latest. We invite you to join us in prayer as we conduct surveys and research healthcare providers and solutions in the months to come. Please pray for wisdom and understanding for those involved in this process and those in the decision-making process.
It’s times like these when we are called to look at the past and remember what the Lord has provided to the World Mission Prayer League throughout the decades. God’s faithfulness has inspired the uniqueness of our calling as an organization. It has guided the formation of our principles, such as our dependence in God, the principle of “bearing one another’s burdens,” our call to live a life of prayer and simplicity and to ultimately give God the glory in all we do.
We praise the Lord for his faithfulness and provision for the month of May. We are pleased to report that all workers were able to receive full allowances and benefits that month. Thank you for your partnership and generous gifts towards the Lord’s calling for the World Mission Prayer League.
