The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”
John 1:14 The Message
The Greek word epiphany means “to reveal” or “to make manifest.” In Peru, where I grew up, this word was mainly used to express the discovery or realization of something unexpected. I don’t remember associating this word so much with the Christian celebration of Epiphany, even in a predominantly Catholic context. Instead, we called this time Three Kings Day, recognizing Christ’s revelation to the Gentiles. The Magi represented Gentile nations that visited the child Jesus, which was God’s greatest gift to the everyone in the world.
Epiphany was the name given by early Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the revelation of God’s love to the world as stated in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (ESV) This verse is the first Bible verse I heard when God began to literally reveal himself in my life during my teenage years. This verse was on the back of a card that a group of global workers were giving away on the street during an evangelistic event in my home town.
Kingdom workers are really vessels of such epiphany or revelation of God’s Good News to all the peoples of the world. God set a plan of salvation through the birth, death and resurrection of his son, Jesus. He continues to carry on this plan to this day and he invites us to be part of this plan. He does not need us to do his will in the world. Yet, he wants us to be part of it. What a privilege it is to participate in God’s work.
As a praying community, we at the Prayer League are committed to knowing Christ, sharing the Good News and ourselves with those who do not know him, and discipling and mobilizing believers worldwide. Thank you for being part of our community and for partnering with us in the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
We praise the Lord for his faithfulness and provision for the month of November. We are pleased to report that all workers were able to receive full allowances and benefits. May this new year bring a renewed joy and thankfulness as we recognize how God continues to reveal himself in our lives and in the lives of those who don’t know him yet.
