Loving the Lord With All We’ve Been Given

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Deuteronomy 6:4

This foundational verse begins what Jesus later calls the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” But he didn’t stop there. Jesus added, “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31)

We are called to love God fully – and to love our neighbors faithfully. These aren’t abstract ideals. They’re lived out in community, where prayer and generosity, with our time, energy, and resources, often become the means through which love takes shape.

God’s love for me has so often been experienced by the acts of the saints. Over the past thirteen years with the World Mission Prayer League, I’ve seen God’s love poured out in many ways. There have been times when I had almost nothing in my bank account, and the Lord miraculously provided exactly what was needed. I recall a time when I was a candidate with WMPL, before we even had a support account set up. A supporter called and said, “The Lord put it on my heart to give this to you.” The amount they gave matched our needs exactly.

There have also been times when my wife and I felt the Lord calling us to give sacrificially and in faith. After praying separately, we came back together to talk and discovered that God had placed the same amount on both our hearts. Moments like these remind me that giving is holy ground—an act of worship and obedience.

And here’s something I’ve learned along the way: God doesn’t need our sacrifices, but our neighbors do. God lacks nothing, but in his mercy, God invites us to join him in loving others well.

In my role, I get to witness these demonstrations of love regularly: through your faithful support, your prayers, and your shared commitment to the Good News being proclaimed to the least reached. Thank you for loving the Lord with all you’ve been given, and for loving your neighbors with open hands and hearts.

I am grateful to report that, thanks to your partnership, sacrifice, and your love that is reaching to the ends of the earth, all of our workers received full allowance in May.
