The Mission Remains the Same

Last month I wrote that spring had finally arrived here at the WMPL office, but now I’m starting to wonder if that was an April Fool’s joke, as most green shoots decided that they would rather stay in the ground than come out into the cold! The majority of the April showers we’ve experienced have been snow showers, but I trust that when the TIP arrives in your mailbox, May will bring the spring for which we have been longingly waiting.

During Lent, we longingly awaited the celebration of Easter, then greatly rejoiced to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection with our families and as the global Church. The resurrected Jesus knew his remaining time on earth was limited and told his disciples they were to go out and preach the gospel. Mark 16:15 records his words: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (NIV)

It is said that Hudson Taylor, the founder of the China Inland Mission who established many of the principles and practices still utilized by WMPL, reminded people that “the Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed.” That command is a core value of the World Mission Prayer League – to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth. Whether it is first-time workers we send out or returning workers – even some who thought they were “retired” – the mission is still the same: to spread the word of God.

We are grateful for the work to which God has called us and we are grateful for you, whether you support us with finances, through prayer, by telling others about WMPL, or by all of the above! Each and every one of us has a different way that we serve Christ, and we come together to bring the love of Christ to the world. Many of our churches have a little sign above the exit or at the end of the driveway that reads, “You are now entering the mission field.”

Our mission field may be in our own neighborhood, in a little village, or in a huge city halfway across the world. But no matter where it lies, the mission to share Christ’s love with everyone remains the same. Jesus’ words in the Gospel of John reiterate the command: “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (20:21 NIV)

The Lord has graciously met our financial needs during the past month, and all of our workers received 100% of their monthly allowances. Accept our humble “Thank you” to those who have supported the work financially, and also to those of you who have supported us with prayer. Happy spring from all of us in the Business Office!
